Mt. Soledad

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

One of the best views of the ocean in San Diego can be had on Mt. Soledad. It’s just back of La Jolla, and on a clear day the view is a delight.

The ocean view is the first most people look at, of course, but the view in all directions is worthwhile. There are a lot of canyons in the area, so you see more than just city. You can even check out the traffic along the I-5.

On the absolute clearest days you can see to Mexico to the south and to the east you’ll see mountains, which are capped with snow in winter. In between of course, you can see downtown San Diego and much more. (more…)

Rockin’ Baja Lobster

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

One of my favorite restaurants has to be Rockin’ Baja Lobster. I love the spices they use on their seafood.

If you come in a group, the buckets are a great way to go. You can order a bucket that suits your tastes, whether you only want seafood or if you’d like some steak or chicken to go with it. If you can’t settle on one bucket, try the “U Call It” Bufadora Bucket. Just as the name says, you decide what goes in it.

If you want tacos or other more typical fare, you can choose from a great selection of tacos, burritos or enchiladas. (more…)

The Bahia Resort Hotel

The Bahia Resort Hotel has a lovely beach setting. It’s located on a peninsula on Mission Bay, giving you a view of either the bay or the Pacific Ocean.

The grounds really stand out. Paths wind throughout the resort. You’ll enjoy the tropical gardens. The most unusual feature, however, is the seal pool. The Bahia Resort Hotel is home to two harbor seals. These animals are quite playful.

The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. You’ll get great amenities in every room, even high speed internet access. In addition to the basic rooms, you can choose a suite with a kitchenette and refrigerator or a studio with a kitchenette and a dining area. (more…)

The San Diego Zoo

Saturday, September 16th, 2006

Sure, you have a zoo in your city. It’s probably even a rather nice zoo. But odds are it’s nothing like the San Diego Zoo.

The San Diego Zoo covers 100 acres. You cannot see it all in one day, even if you hurry. It’s just that big. It’s home to 800 species, with more than 4000 animals, and more than 700,000 exotic plants.

The San Diego Zoo is one of the few in the world which has successfully bred pandas. You can watch them even when you’re not at the zoo through the panda cam, but you really will want to visit them. Expect a line, but I’ve always found it worthwhile to see these very rare animals. Pandas are not the most active of creatures, but they are beautiful. (more…)

Legoland

What child doesn’t love Legos™? More, what child doesn’t love amusement parks?

Legoland is great fun for the entire family. The entire theme is based around Legos, and you’ll see many parts of the park built with Legos. The rides look like Legos.

Legoland is fun even for very young children, although they will be somewhat limited in what they can do, as with any other amusement park. However, there’s still plenty for them to see and do.

Some of the rides are more challenging than you might expect at an amusement park. There’s one that is more a competition than a ride, as you pump your fire engine to the hose, then pump the water out to be the first to put out the fire, then pump back. Trust me, it’s exhausting, but the kids love it. Other rides are also self-propelled. There are, of course, more traditional roller coasters as well. (more…)
