Basic Facts About San Diego
San Diego is very popular with tourists and it’s easy to see why. Great beaches, fun things to do both in and around the city, and let’s not forget the shopping!
The city of San Diego has a population of more than 1 million people. It’s the second largest city in California and the sixth biggest in the United States. However, most of the city doesn’t have that big city feel. You can get that feeling if you like in the downtown area, but otherwise San Diego has the friendly feel of a much smaller city.
The weather here in San Diego is amazing. Even during a winter visit you’re likely to have several sunny days. No guarantees, of course, but chances are pretty good. The average high temperature is around 70 degrees. Visitors are known to go to the beach year round, as are locals. The various beaches are generally sandy and beautiful.
Want to see something you just don’t get many chances to see? Visit anywhere between December and March, take a whale watching cruise and you might just see some grey whales. It’s an amazing experience I recommend for the entire family. Take your seasickness medication first, of course, if that tends to be a problem for you!
How about adding a little international flair to your vacation? Mexico is just south of San Diego. Tijuana has a great range of restaurants, shopping and nightlife.
This isn’t to say San Diego lacks nightlife. To the contrary! What do you like to do? Listen to country music? Dance? Karaoke? Play video games? Hang out in a great bar? It’s all available here.
If there’s one feature aside from the beaches that most people have heard about in San Diego, it has to be the zoo. It’s huge. We’re talking 100 acres, about 4000 animals and 800 species. Trust me, it takes most people more than one day to see and appreciate the whole thing. Then there’s the Wild Animal Park, which is an entirely different experience.
All around, San Diego is a great vacation spot for the entire family. You can come in winter and enjoy generally mild weather… aside from the occasional storm, or bask in the sun in the summertime. It’s not a boring city.
