San Diego County Fair

San Diego County Fair

The San Diego County Fair started June 10, 2006 and will continue until July 4, 2006. It’s a great time for the entire family. Adults can get in for $11, kids 6-12 $6, kids 5 and under are free.

I took my family on Wednesday this week because Wednesdays and Thursdays are “pay one price day” for rides. They still aren’t cheap, as the price for the wristband is $25/person. However, if you love fair rides this is the best deal you can get.

The rides are far from the only attractions at the fair, of course. We had a great time going through the exhibits; I love the mineral and gemstone exhibits.

This year’s theme is “Ride the Tide to Fun.” They’ve done a great job with the relevant exhibits. If you’re a fan of Wyland, he’s at the fair some days. The exhibits are centered around an environmental theme, and I was amazed to see a rescued bald eagle in the exhibits. If you’ve never seen a bald eagle, that is one impressive bird.

My kids loved the farm animals. They especially had fun in the petting zoo section, where they could interact with sheep and goats, and baby pigs were nearby.

If you’re in San Diego, the San Diego County Fair is well worth the time. You may even want to come twice – once with the kids and once just the adults, so that you can enjoy every aspect of the fair.
